Barbara Ford Kurtz, 85, of Shelton, CT passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022 after a long illness.  She was the loving wife of 60 years of the late Charles Kurtz Jr.  Barbara was born to parents William and Barbara Ford in Yonkers, New York on April 22, 1936.  She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954 and then earned a degree in Secretarial Science from Manhattanville College before embarking on a legal secretarial career.  She married Charles in 1959 and immediately started a family raising her four sons.  She became the matriarch of a large family including nine grandchildren and a soon to be born great grandchild.  She was known to all for a loving smile and for her generosity, but also her tough love when life demanded it. She enjoyed watching NFL football and playing tennis, golf, and skiing.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, especially all the memories she created. Her wonderful holiday celebrations, adventures with the grandchildren, and all the amazing treats she made. Her eight  inch thick cheesecake and amazing brownies are world renowned.

 

She was predeceased by her sister Patricia Friese and brother Brian Ford.  She leaves behind her four sons and nine grandchildren: Michael & Diane of New Hartford, and their two children Paul & spouse Meg Kurtz of Tennessee and Meredith Kurtz of CO.  James and Debbie of Trumbull and their two daughters Jaimie & spouse Stuart Prevo of Trumbull and Bridget & spouse James Fogle of Trumbull.  Robert Kurtz of Grand Junction, CO and his two children Quintin and MacKenzie.  William & Karen of Stamford and their three children Dr. Taylor Bencivengo and spouse Jay of Stamford, Dr. Morgan Kurtz of San Diego, and Kylee Kurtz of Stamford, along with many nieces and nephews.
