Barbara was born December 23, 1926 in Merced, California to Robert Dees and Anne Belle Vinson. She died peacefully in her sleep after a prolonged illness on January 2, 2013 at Beehive Home in Layton, Utah.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and her son, Daniel as well as by her father, mother, four brothers and two sisters. Her sister, Naomi Schleicher, age 91, lives in Easton, Pennsylvania. Barbara is survived by her sons, David (Claudine) of Salt Lake City, Larry (Marsha) of Layton, and Martin (Chris) of Tukwila, Washington, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Barbara (“Cookie”) and Gordon R. Yurth (“John”) were married on August 25, 1944 and were sealed to their four sons in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 15, 1958. She served her church faithfully for many years, as a Primary teacher, Young Women’s leader, Visiting Teacher and friend to all. She and her husband served as temple workers in the Ogden LDS Temple. Barbara was also active for many years in the Davis North Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary.

During her life, Barbara shared her love of music with her children, and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was particularly proud of the time she sang in the Billy Graham Choir at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in the spring of 1957 with her beloved friend, Delone Kone.

She also taught them how to love and be loved. She was the quintessence of kindness and compassion.
