Barbara Ella Carter Jones was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 23, 1945 to the late William Carter, Jr. and Albrosia Minor Carter. At an early age Barbara attended and was baptized at the New Metropolitan Baptist Church. Barbara received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools and was selected to participate in the accelerated program. She graduated from Eastern High School, attended Morgan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, and received a Master’s degree in Education from Coppin State University. She was employed by the Baltimore City Public School System, and taught elementary school students with the desire to prepare them for success and would schedule field trips for her students to Washington, D.C. and State Parks in Maryland. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Jones, Jr. She transitioned from this life on January 13, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Over the years Barbara developed a passion for the word and became a Biblical Scholar participating in Bible Study classes and discussions from Glen Burnie to Laurel, Maryland.

Barbara is survived by her brother, William Carter, III; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Carter; two nieces, Esha Carter and Cory Davis; two nephews, Marcell Carter and Curtis Funderburke; and a host of cousins and family friends.
