Barbara E. Cooley

February 1, 1927 – March 14, 2011

Cooley, Barbara E.Bay City, Michigan

Barbara (Mosher) Cooley passed away peacefully, on March 14, 2011 at Brian’s House following a brief illness. Barbara was born in Bay City to the late Florence and Howard Mosher on February 1, 1927 and has resided in Bay City most of her life.

Barbara was married to Russell Cooley on June 1, 1946 and together they had six children: Russell (Sandy) Cooley of Sugar Springs, Linda (Brian) Mahoney of Statesville, North Carolina, Larry Cooley (deceased), Dan (Karen) Cooley of Bay City, Jeff (Susan) Cooley of Kawkawlin and Kim (Kurt) Vogel of Bay City. Barb was blessed with many grandchildren: Dawn (Brandon) Hoffman, Jason Cooley, Brent Mahoney, Melissa (Drew) Baxer, Heather Lynch, April (Jason) Hartsig, Jessie (Stacy) Cooley, Holly, Jacob, Joseph, Luke and Addison Cooley, Dustin and Trenton Vogel and ten great-grandchildren. Barbara and her husband built and lived in homes within Bay City but also enjoyed getting away to their property on the Pigeon River in Afton, Michigan where they finally built a permanent home, retired and lived full time for about 12 years. Barbara and Russell moved back to Bay City in 2002 to care for Russell’s struggle with dementia and be closer to their dear family. Many fond memories and special friendships were made over the 30 + years spent in the Indian River area. Snowmobiling in the winter, berry picking, and mushroom hunting were activities Barb and Russell enjoyed while up-north. Barbara was also a homemaker that loved to bake, can, bike, bowl, play cards, and bingo and enjoy her time with family and friends. She is well known for her delicious cookies, fudge and pies that she so often would give away and is specially adored by the recipients of her shoe box of Christmas goodies at the holidays! Her wit and ability to “keep up with most anyone” made our Mother, Grandma, Sister, and Friend a joy to be around! We really don’t think there were too many biking trails she didn’t find! We will miss the time spent up north camping, boating, playing at the beach and Mom’s willingness to do almost anything, even riding the “Crystal Coaster” Alpine Slide at Crystal Mountain last summer! Barbara enjoyed her repeat visits to Hilton Head with her dear daughter and family and readily visited North Carolina. Barbara also worked for a time at Downtown Bay City’s former Ford Clothing Store, Dawn Donuts on West Side Saginaw Rd. and the Cross in the Woods Gift Store in Indian River. Barbara attended and raised her children at the Free Methodist Church in Bay City and is today a member of Kawkawlin Community Church where she felt blessed to have a loving pastor and many special friendships. Barbara is survived by her dear sisters: Gloria (Floyd-Rip) Rybkowski and Kimberly Fagerstrom. Barbara is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Phylis (Bud) Harwood, sister-in-law: Frieda Jacobs, her husband: Russell Cooley, her son, and both parents. Barbara was also blessed with a very dear and special friend, Donna Vandenbosh, who was both a neighbor in Bay City and in Afton, raising their families side by side while creating many wonderful and lasting memories. Barbara will truly and dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

At the request of Barbara cremation has taken place.

Barbara E.
