Barbara Doris Smith Stephens, 76, of Newnan, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Piedmont-Newnan hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on August 20, 1937 in Coweta County and grew up in the Arnco community. Barbara was the only child of the late Elbert “Buddy” and Ruth Wilson Smith. She worked for Bell South in the engineering department and retired in 1995. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Newnan. She was, and will continue to be, a great inspiration to the family she loved dearly. God blessed her with inner strength that helped her endure the daily tests of life. She leaves her family with a great legacy – as a wonderful wife, an exemplary mother, and a loving grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William Clifton Stephens. Her children are David (Joan) Stephens, Mark (Alda) Stephens, Pat (Kim) Stephens, Chris (Lori) Stephens. Great joys in her life were her grandchildren, Tim Stephens, Alyssa Stephens, Ashley Shugart (Joseph), Matt Stephens, Lisa Stephens, Lynn Stephens, Logan Stephens, Cole Stephens and Kendall Stephens.
