Barbara Catherine Winter, 90, of 2226 Hillside Avenue, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Valley View Nursing Center.
Barbara married Charles R. Winter II on Sept. 30, 1940. She accompanied him from 1956 to 1970 to Karachi, Pakistan; Amman, Jordan; Kathmandu, Nepal and Ankara, Turkey, due to his work for the United States Department of State. He died in Turkey on June 28, 1970, whereupon she returned to Williamsport.
Barbara was a member of Church of the Savior Lutheran and served on its church council. She was a Past Matron of the former Eliza S. Barnes Chapter 180 Order of the Eastern Star, being a 66 year member of the order. She also enjoyed needlework.
Barbara had worked as the Sylvania TV hostess at the Williamsport Hospital from 1970 to 1980.
Born June 22, 1919 in Maquon, IL, she was the daughter of Myrl R. and M. Ruth Wilson Harbison.
Surviving are sons, Charles R. III with whom she lived of Williamsport and Marc R. of Carterville, IL; granddaughters, Kirsten, Katrina and Kendra; great grandchildren, Nick, Kira, James and Ariel.
Barbara was predeceased by a brother, Myrl A. Harbison and a sister, Mary L. Ladewig.
