Barbara Ann (McIntyre) Growhoski, age 61, of Easthampton, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on February 28, 1961 and she was the daughter of the late Marie Margaret (LaBrake) McIntyre and Robert John McIntyre.
Barbara was raised and educated in the Saranac Lake schools and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in the class of 1979. She continued her education at State University of New York in Oneonta graduating in 1982 earning her degree in English Education.
Barbara’s thirty eight year teaching career started at Oneonta Job Corps, where she taught English/Reading and GED program from 1984-1988, before taking a teaching position in English at Holyoke Street School from 1988-2002. For the last twenty years Barbara taught for the Springfield Public Schools system, teaching Math and Special Education at the Forest Park Middle School, recently retiring this past June of 2022.
In the early 1990’s she met, what would become the love of her life, partner, best friend and husband, David Joseph Growhoski. On July 29th in 1995 at Child’s Park in Northampton they celebrated their wedding day and they became Barbara and David Growhoski. Together, they celebrated true happiness with twenty seven years of marriage they enjoyed each others company at their homes in Easthampton, MA and Rainbow Lake in New York.
Together they loved the outdoors, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or just relaxing by their fire pit. She also loved reading and just enjoyed her alone time with a good book.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband; David Growhoski, her step-mother; Bonnie McIntyre of Burlington, NC, brothers; Richard McIntyre and his wife Theresa of Wayland, NY, William McIntyre and his wife Francine of Saranac Lake, NY, step sister; Jan McKernan and her husband Jake of Chandler, AZ, mother in law; Gloria Poirier of Easthampton, brother in laws; Ted Drozd of Toms River, NJ, Donald Growhoski and partner Ronald Marshall of CT, Joseph Growhoski of Boston, sister in laws; Sandy Graham and husband Bob of Easthampton and Carol Growhoski and spouse Cole LeFavour of Idaho. Her nieces Laura and Claire Drozd and nephew David Drozd of Toms River, NJ niece; Sarah Juarez and Jesus of Ewing, NJ, nephew; Nathan McIntyre, nephews; Jeffrey Graham of Florida and Bryan Graham of Easthampton, niece Grace McIntyre and their mother Allison of Rochester, NY, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides being predeceased by her parents Barbara was predeceased by her sister Donna Drozd.
