Barbara Ann Greene, age 70, of Newnan died August 17, 2016 at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation from complications related to cancer. She was born November 22, 1945 and was the daughter of the late William E. and Lucille Wilkes Greene. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Bobby O. Wheeler and Jack W. Greene and her niece Patti Jo Greene. Barbara attended Newnan High School, but graduated from LaGrange High School following her family’s move to that city. Barbara attended LaGrange College, where she received her degree. For a time, she was a social worker for Coweta County General Hospital. She later pursued her career as an educator and she taught history and advanced placement history at East Coweta High School and The Heritage School.
Barbara’s life was full and she got great enjoyment from her love of Georgia and Alabama football. And, oh, she loved music. She was a girl that loved her guitar and was a constant presence in her band of friends at Newnan Music in its heyday. Barbara is survived by her brother Olison O. (and Earlene) Wheeler, sister-in-law Morn A. Wheeler, nephew Buzz Wheeler, niece Allison Latmore, great nephews Grant Latmore, Peyton Latmore, step-niece Sherree (and Muncie) Williams, step-nephew Travis (and Margaret) Storey. Very important in Barbara’s life was her fur baby Garth. In keeping with Barbara’s love of life, family and friends, a time of sharing memories and playing her favorite music will be held at McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 5:00 PM to be led by Reverend Winston Skinner.
Her dear friend Doug Kees will share his music. Friends are invited to visit with the family following the service. Always a very practical person, Barbara would prefer that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to one’s favorite charity.
