Barbara Ann Covington was born on March 18, 1943 in Apex, North Carolina. She was one of 10 children from the late Ezekiel Macklin and Willie Kate Lundy. Barbara received her formal education from Dhoni High School in Apex, NC in 1961. Shortly after Barbara met and married John Covington Jr., in 1962.
She parted ways with her husband and went on to meet her life partner Claude N. Randolph Sr., who she remain with until his homegoing.
Barbara’s loving and nurturing nature led to her pursuit as a Home Care Aide and House Keeper. Her vibrant and caring being allowed her to soar in such fields.
She resided all throughout Brooklyn but was well-known at her previous residences of 809 Park Place and 342 Chauncey Street, where she developed the reputation as “The Cook”. She fed anyone with a hungry belly and always had Sunday’s dinners ready for expected and unexpected guests.
Barbara loved the kids in the community and considered herself as everyone’s “Granny” especially the friends of her grandchildren.
She was always known as being the “Life of the Party”. She would captivate all those around her with her welcoming presence and contagious laughter.
Later in life, Barbara battled through many health challenges. Most known were COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and Lung Cancer which went into remission in 2013 but unfortunately resurface in 2021. Throughout her fight she remained charismatic, devoted to her craft of cooking and providing for her family.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Iga Mae Macklin, Annie D Latimore, Mattie Mae Mosley; her brothers James Chandler, Ezekiel McClain Jr, Julian McClain, Lawrence McClain, and Lonnie Frank McClain; her sons Tyrone Covington, Derrick Covington and daughter Candace Covington.
Barbara leaves to mourn, her beloved sister Helen Macklin; her children Clarence McClain (Robin), Maurice Covington, Stacy Covington, Mustafah Covington and Anthony Covington; her grandchildren Richard Hall (Sherita), Maurice Covington Jr, Clarence McClain Jr, Phillip Murph, Chiquita Brown, Jeremy Covington, Ariel Covington, Sharon Slack, Dominique Slack, Dylan Brown, Kiera Brown, Terrence Covington, Justin Covington and Precious Covington; 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Barbara Ann Covington was well loved and she will be greatly missed.
