Barbara Ann Cook, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at her home. Barbara was born on October 13, 1934 in the town of Tocsin, Indiana to the late Perry and Ida (Kern) Shaffer.

She married her best friend Robert S. “Bob” Cook on August 18, 1983 in Elkhart. Bob passed away on November 30, 2015 after 32 years of marriage.

Surviving are six children, Barry Hyser and husband Ken Shepherd, Tim Hyser, Steve (Cathy) Cook; Sue (Ken) Hartough, Kathy (Jim) Perron and Karen (Bill) Marks; and her sister Nancy Barger. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Barbara was a devoted Aunt and loved spending as much time as possible with her beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband Bob, a son Tony Cook, infant son Michael Kent Hyser; brother Richard “Dick” Shaffer and two sisters Lucille Garton and Doris Durr preceded her in death.

Barbara retired from the K-Mart Corporation after 25 years of service, she was the office manager of the South Main St. store. Barbara was a graduate of Ossian High School in Ossian, IN. She was attending Faith United Methodist Church in Goshen. Barbara was very social and had many friends. She enjoyed running the weekly Bingo games at Strafford Commons. She also enjoyed gardening and the beauty of flowers. She and Bob enjoyed wintering in Florida, where she enjoyed the sun, beach and sand. Barbara was very involved with Al-Anon, as Bob was a member of AA for over 37 years.
