Barbara Ann Tekerman
Barbara Ann Tekerman, 85, longtime resident of Melbourne, FL (formerly of Miami, FL) passed away peacefully on November 19, 2019 after bravely battling complications from a sudden infection.
Born July 6, 1934 in Lockport, NY; Barbara was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She began her career as a legal secretary, when she met and married her beloved husband, Joseph T. Tekerman on June 15, 1957. They lived together in Miami, FL for 36 years where they raised their family and later retired to Melbourne, FL in 1993.
While raising their three young children, Barbara resumed her career as a Sales Representative with Avon. Her hard-work and sales success lead her up the ladder where she became their National Sales Manager. The focus was on her young family as the children became involved in school activities and sports. She volunteered her time serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, Softball Coach, Secretary to the Howard-Palmetto Khoury League and PTA President, including a term as the President of the State of Florida PTA. When the kids were in high school, she continued her career working for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a School Registrar at Southwood Middle School and later as the Administrative Assistant to the South Area School Superintendent.
Barbara will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife, mother and friend who always had a smile, even when times were tough as she battled four different bouts with cancer over a 30-year period. She had a quiet strength, strong courage and always looked to a better future. Always graceful, loving and caring even when God called her home. Barbara was a devoted wife and loving mother to her three children, and held a special place in her heart for her dog Keechi. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was predeceased by her mother, Victoria Sloma, her husband Joseph T. Tekerman, and her brother Gary J. Sloma. She is survived by her brother Henry M. Sloma and his wife Bonnie. Her eldest son, Glenn J. Tekerman, her daughter Tori Fehringer and her husband Scott, and her younger son, Gregg S. Tekerman. Along with her grandchildren, Hayden, Harley and Hyatt Tekerman, Tyler Fehringer and his wife Mikhala, Danielle Kimple and her husband Travis.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Viera Hospital ICU for their exceptional love, care and respect.
