Barbara A. Rerko, age 79, of Geneva passed away Sunday August 19, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born March 19, 1933 in Washington D.C., the daughter of Gerard and Ruth (Smart) Altmeyer.
Barbara received her R.N. Certificate from the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. She worked at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva for 38 years. She really enjoyed her time at the Geneva Senior Center playing euchre and her monthly luncheons with her “Antique Nurses” friends. Both Barbara and her husband Larry were very fond of greyhound dogs and cared for many retired racers in their home.
She is survived by her children Mark (Polly) of St. Charles, Kathy Rust of Geneva, Timothy (Cheryl) of Batavia and Mary (Todd) Striedl of St. Charles; grandchildren Alec, Michael, Morgan, Geddy and Nelson Rerko and Raechel and Jess Striedl and by her brother John (Kathleen) Altmeyer of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son John in infancy, and her husband Lawrence who passed away in 2011.
