Barbara Pitt, 86, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Frederick David Pitt, Jr., passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022. Born on March 8, 1936 in Bridgeport CT, she was the daughter of the late Rudy and Gertrude Martaus.
Barbara was academically gifted and began her career at the BIC headquarters and manufacturing facility located in Milford, CT. Engaging and entrepreneurial, she became a successful independent AVON representative and also shared a home cleaning business with her best friend Linda.
With her firey red hair and many creative talents, Barbara was first and foremost an amazing artist. This included everything from drawing, sketching and painting and then later in life, was passionate about using her creative talent with very detailed coloring books. Barbara also helped out both of her son’s early education creating the most amazing Art cover work for book reports. Family and friends have said over the years that she missed her calling to have her own Art Gallery.
Barbara’s artistry and creativity also carried over to her love of holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween. The family’s home was always decorated to the hilt each holiday. Barbara’s father taught her the art of decorating a Christmas tree, which including intricately stringing and placing specialty lights and ornaments. The family often thought the UI bill doubled at Christmas time but it was always beautiful.
Although her husband was an early riser, Barbara was just the opposite and was a night owl who usually stayed up past midnight watching her favorite movies and shows. Barbara loved watching movies with her family but her favorite genre was Halloween/monster movies. Barbara’s collection of Halloween movies/dvd’s was very impressive and it was a passion she shared by her two son’s Fred and Michael.
Barbara loved tasty food but her favorites were Lobster and Chocolate. She would always choose lobster over a good steak and her favorite restaurant was Chuck’s Steak house which she would frequent with her family for grilled lobster tails.
Barbara just loved all animals and they reciprocated that love back to her. She was truly an animal person. At one point, the family had a dog, multiple cats, guinea pigs, ferrets, fish and even a snake.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Frederick D. (Kim) Pitt III and Michael J. Pitt; grandson, Michael J. Pitt, Jr.; sister-in-law, Arlene Martaus; close friend Linda Scuito; and cousins; Carol Rahmlow, Brian Wallenta and Kowalski family. As well as extended family and good friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Rudy Martaus, Jr., sister-in-law, Lillian and her parents-in-law, Frederick and Ruth Pitt, Sr.
