His given name was Samuel Bailey Frye. Born Jan. 30, 1918, in the family home in Burnettsville. He was the son of Quincy Virgil and Mary Elmira Wolfe Frye. He was married Dec. 31, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, to Retta Mae Lee, who survives.

Mr. Frye was a 1935 graduate of the former Adams High School near Lockport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He helped liberate the Philippines from Japan at the end of the war. After the war, he went to work as a salesman for the Logansport Metal Culvert Company, eventually serving as the sales manager before retiring in 1983. He sold many of the culvert pipes still serving under the Eisenhower Interstate system in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Also surviving are his son, Larry R. Frye and wife, Mary Lee, Zionsville; two grandchildren, Nelson B. Frye and wife, Rene, Zionsville, and Christina M. Smith and husband, Michael, Wentzville, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Wesley R. and Haley A. Frye, and Insley L. and Carson M. Smith; his sister, Louise Reiff, Monticello; and sister-in-law, Ruby Frye, Washington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Frye, and brother-in-law, Robert Reiff.
