Dr. Azra Jabeen passed away on March 16, 2020, at the age of 54, surrounded by her family.
Azra was born in Dhakka, Bangladesh on November 30, 1965 to Muhammad Sharfuddin and Naseema Khatoon.
She received her medical degree from Dow Medical College in 1990 in Karachi, Pakistan. After completing her degree and immigrating to the United States, she practiced internal medicine for 23 years, including providing medical care to underserved communities throughout West Michigan. Azra was a strong advocate for women’s empowerment through education and served as a mentor to many youths and young professionals in the community.
Azra dedicated her life to providing care for others – she was a compassionate and selfless person who gave both her time and talents to supporting many humanitarian causes throughout the Kalamazoo community as well as globally. She was a philanthropist that always put others’ health and well-being before her own, doing whatever she could to help those in need. One of the many charitable causes that she supported was the Tree of Love campaign, which helped uninsured, low-income women receive medical services at Borgess Hospital. She was held in the highest regard by her colleagues and peers because of her kind demeanor, dedication to community service, and strong integrity.
Every person who met Azra, no matter how brief, established a genuine connection with her due to her generous and compassionate nature.
Azra was a loving wife and dedicated mother. Her husband, Muhammad Arif, along with her children, Ali and Aiyla, wish to thank the caring community of family and friends for their prayers and support.
