Avis was born May 6, 1948 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND to Harry Roberson and Buryl Craven Roberson. Her father died when she was 8 years old and she was raised by Buryl and Ernest Doehle. She graduated from Bismarck High and was married to Larry Benefiet. They had two sons, Martin Ray Benefiet and Daniel James Benefiet.
Avis moved to Great Falls in the early seventies and worked at Jardine, Stephenson, Blewett and Weaver law firm for 38 years. She and her husband, Collins (C.J.) Johnson enjoyed traveling with and without grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, C.J.; sons, Martin Benefiet and Daniel (Tracie) Benefiet; stepson, Kirk Johnson; granddaughters, Ashley, Kristin, Taylor, Nevaeh, Brianna, Angeliece, Natalie; grandsons, Tony, Daniel, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Levi; sister, Melody (Patrick) Neely; brothers, Jim (Joan) Roberson, Del Ray Roberson and Harold Roberson; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
