Avis Eichman Odvody of Boerne, Texas, formerly of Mesa Arizona and Huron South Dakota passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Heritage Place assisted living in Boerne, Texas. Avis was born to Harry and Mabel Appelwick in Madison, South Dakota on August 9, 1918.
She grew up in Madison with her brother Omer and sisters Irma & Harriet. She was a staunch Lutheran and the church and her family were the center of her life. She will be remembered by many for her excellent lefsa making. On June 21, 1941 she was united in marriage to Robert L. Eichman. After WWII and Bob’s return from the Pacific front, they moved to Huron South Dakota and started a Culligan Water Conditioning company. They owned and operated that business until they sold it to their son Bill and his wife Mary Ann. Avis spent eight years with Bob in the South Dakota Legislature. They spent 20 years in Mesa Arizona and they were the social directors in the park in which they lived. After Bob’s death on December 30, 2000, Avis, at 83 , married Donald J. Odvody and had eleven years together until his death in February 2013. Avis moved to Boerne Texas to be close to Bill and Mary Ann and her grandchildren. She always made her presence known by her outgoing and fun loving personality.
Avis is survived by her son Bill and his wife Mary Ann, her grandsons Billy and his wife Lauren, John and his wife Camille, five great granddaughters, Ashley and her husband Chris, Raven. Emma, Annabelle and Grace Ann, and one great great granddaughter Margot. She is also survived by her four sisters-in-laws and several nieces and nephews and their families along with Don Odvody’s two sons and their families.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her 2nd husband Don, her parents, her sisters, her brother, and her son Richard Eichman.
