We mourn the death and celebrate the life and legacy of Augustus Bogany, Sr. On May 19, 1937 in Houston, Texas a baby boy was born. His parents, R.L. and Edmonia Bogany named him Augustus. Augustus was baptized at Sloan Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Rev. A.W. Carr. He later became a member of Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle under the leadership of Bishop Amos York, Sr. in Houston, Texas. Augustus attended Lincoln High School in Coldspring, Texas where he was a member of the basketball team. His smooth tenor voice earned him a spot on the school’s Quartet group. They received many awards while competing at Prairie View A&M University and other historically black colleges. Augustus learned to drive large trucks at a young age and after moving to Houston, Texas he started a truck driving career that spanned over 45 years. On November 23, 1957, Augustus married Ola Pearl Boyd and they were blessed with ten beautiful children, Ramonia, Augustus, Jr., Anthony, Yolanda, Efrem, Andreá, Lorenzo, Karen, Daphne, and Derrick. Augustus and Ola Pearl shared 54 years of marriage. On October 7, 2012, God dispatched an angel to relieve Augustus of his earthly responsibilities. He is preceded in death by his wife Ola Pearl Bogany, his eldest son Augustus Bogany, Jr., his daughter Michelle Bogany, his fathers R.L. Bogany, Henry Brock, Sr. and Sol Boyd, his brothers Robert McGowan, Saul Boyd and Sam Oten, and his sisters Gloria Jean Bogany, Mattie Jewel, and Mildred Boyd House. Left in God’s care and to rejoice in his homegoing is his mother, Edmonia Brock; his mother Claretha Spiller; his daughters Ramonia King (Wilbert), Yolanda Anderson, Andreá Robertson (Michael), Karen Powers (Freddie), Daphne Remo (Brian), his sons Anthony Bogany, Efrem Bogany (Tammy), Lorenzo Bogany (Natasha), and Derrick Bogany (Ashley); his grandchildren LaKeitha Kirven (Corey), Demetria Stephens, Michael Robertson, Jr., David Anderson, Jr., Krystle Bogany, Jazzmon Bogany, Alexandria Thomas (Joshua), Janaé Bogany, Dezmond Powers, Kevin Bogany, Sydney Bogany, Cheyenne Bogany, Kaidon Bogany, Makailee Bogany, Davari Powers, Braden Remo, Keemon Felix, Marcus King, Jonathan King, Brandon Smith, Ashley Toliver, Eric Villafuerte and Kenneth Briscoe, Jr; his great-grandchildren Destiny Kelley, Ja´Niya Rachle, Ja´Den Burnett, Carter Kirven, Isaiah Thomas, Noah Thomas, Elijah Thomas, Keiana Felix, Keelon Felix, Keidren Felix, Keandre Felix, Keemon Felix, Jr., Gavin Smith, Brendon Smith and JóSiah Postell all of Houston, TX; his sisters, Loretta Reed, Clara Oten, Doris Boyd, Rubi Boyd, Mary Whittaker (Alfanza), Viola Boyd-Richardson, Blenda Ross (James), Lila Boyd, and Ann McGowan all of Houston, TX; his brothers Henry Brock (Debra), Eddie Brock, Charles Brock, all of Houston, TX, and Ezzard C. Boyd of Coldspring ; and his special children David Anderson, Sr., Vanessa Jackson, Owen Anderson, Timeaka Melonson Martin, Cheryl Dickey and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
