Augusta Carolyn “Carolyn” Benner, 96, of 525 Laurel St., died at 3:10 p.m. Friday (March 14, 2008) at Fountain View Place, Mishawaka, of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Libertyville, Ill, to John Exon and Rosa Lena Trakel. She married Russell C. Benner in 1930. He died in 1978.

Surviving are two daughters, Jo Ann (David) Lacey of Bristol and Gwendolyn (Ronald) Pinter of Osceola; one son, Lester (Jane) Benner of Mishawaka; one sister, Elsie (Russell) Rouse of Munde Lien, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-granchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ernest, and seven brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Benner worked at the South Bend Medical Foundation for more than 15 years in instrument sterilization. She was a 50-year member of the Jehovah Witnesses (North) Kingdom Hall in Mishawaka. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as cooking. She was best known for her apple squares and lemon pie.
