A.H. “Gus” Schade, 100, of Meridian, died, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at his home. Gus was born in Milwaukie, Oregon on April 6, 1914 to Henry and Barbara Schade. He was raised in Milwaukie and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1942. Gus served in the U.S. Army in Germany during .
On November 11, 1939 he married the love of his life Wilma Bain in Portland, Oregon. They spent 69 wonderful years together until her passing in 2009. Gus and Wilma were blessed with 2 children, Greg and Carol. He has resided in Oregon, California and Idaho.
They moved to Nampa in 1951 with their two children where he started Gem Fuel Company, now known as Gem Stop Company and still in operation today.
Gus enjoyed playing golf, fishing, bridge, and traveling. He and Wilma took many fishing trips and loved their Campbell River trips and Shepp Ranch trips in particular. They also spent many winters in Pismo Beach where they golfed at many beautiful golf courses and met many friends there.
Gus enjoyed his many trips to McCall and to Moscow to watch U of I football games. He even attended the season opener at the age of 99.
Gus is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Wilma, parents and sister, Helena.
Surviving him are his sister; Barbara Boss of Texas, his children; Dr. Greg (Helmi) Schade of Boise and Carol (Don) Shepherd of Nampa, grandchildren; Philip (Marcie) Schade of Danville, California, and Christine (Russell) Sloan of Littleton, Colorado, Jeff Shepherd of Nampa, Janet (Craig) Lunt of Nampa, Jonathan (Emily) Shepherd of Boise, Great-grandchildren; Matt & Brett Schade, Patrick and Emily Sloan, Drew and Justin Lunt, and Ryan, Jake, and Cole Shepherd.
Gus was fortunate enough to have a multitude of family and friends help him celebrate his 100th birthday on April 6th. He was able to greet each and every one and loved having this celebration of his life.
