Audrey Ruth Henry took her last breath and went home to her Lord Jesus this past Saturday, August 29, 2020. Audrey’s home going leaves a gaping hole in the heart of her family, and in the hearts of all those who knew her; she left a legacy we will not forget.
Audrey was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1937. In 1944, she and her family moved to California. Her mother, sister (Nancy) and she came by railway, while their father drove the family possessions in the car, using his sugar ration coupons to trade for gas coupons during WWII. After settling in the San Diego area, Audrey began school at Benjamin Franklin elementary where many noticed her New York accent. She graduated valedictorian from Chula Vista High School in 1957, and went on to San Diego State to study art. Within a year she met and married Patrick Henry. They moved to San Marcos in 1963 and raised the family there. Over the years of being a wife and mother, Audrey was involved in the San Marcos Junior Women’s club, served as the librarian at Santa Fe Christian School from 1980-1990, and produced the genealogy of the family history. Pat and Audrey moved to Burke Ranch in 1991, returning to Oceanside in 2015.
Audrey loved her family and the family of God. She and Pat, married over 60 years, were a great model of faithfulness and love. They were proud of their family and delighted in talking about them. Audrey had many, many friends throughout the years that not only shared her love for sewing, quilting and crafts, but also for the things of the Lord. She had a passionate heart for overseas missions, serving on many mission boards and faithfully praying for the many missionaries they supported.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin Houldcroft and Ruth Daisley Houldcroft, and her husband Patrick Henry and son in law James W. Huston. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Higgins, daughter Dianna Huston, son and daughter in law, Mike and Jen Henry, grandchildren, Colten Henry, Chelsea Henry, Stephanie and Martin Lim, Paul and Marilu Huston, Shannon and Jody Rouse, Colleen and Mitch Dong, J. Scott and Kari Huston. Her great-grandchildren – Connor and Noah Lim, Levi Rouse, Audrey and Gil Dong, and James Huston.
