Audrey MacRae, 94, passed away October 12, 2021 at Independence Village in Waukee, where she resided since 2018.

Audrey was born May 27, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to parents, Clarence and Laura (Dunivan) Stoner. The family moved to Des Moines when she was 11 years old. She graduated from North High School and in 1948, she graduated from Iowa Methodist Nursing School. Later in life she completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 1948, she was married to Angus “Scotty” MacRae and they made their home in Urbandale, where she lived for 60 years.

Audrey worked in public health and then as a nurse for the Urbandale School District for over 30 years, where she developed the school’s first nurse program. She retired in 1989 and is fondly remembered by many former students and staff.

Audrey was a longtime member of the Urbandale Lioness Club, First Christian Church and attended Waukee Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and generously donated children’s clothing and blankets to Blank Children’s Hospital and various Mission organizations. Her greatest joy was her family and her large circle of friends.

Audrey is survived by her sons, Ric (Sue) MacRae and Al (Gina) MacRae; four grandchildren, Carrie (Manish) Shah, Keith (Stacie) MacRae, Colleen MacRae (Charles Wittmack) and Megan MacRae and six great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Scotty” and her brother, Jack (Marian) Stoner.
