Audilio “Mike” Barela passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021. Audilio was born in Veguita, New Mexico on May 12, 1929, to Bonifacia and Eulalio Barela. He graduated from La Joya High School in 1948. Mike received an athletic scholarship to St. Joseph College where he played basketball and baseball. Mike was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 44 years. He also served in the Army National Guard Reserves for 34 years. While working full time and serving in the guard, he attended the University of Albuquerque and received his BBA in 1980. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church since 1955 and was active in St. Vincent de Paul, RCIA, and the Spanish Choir. He also served as an usher and volunteered for numerous parish activities. Mike was devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maria Petrita, his children, Anna (David) Baumann, Robert Barela, Christina (Edward) Gonzales, Karin (Brian) Hoden. Grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Mares, Aundria (Brandon) Koprowski, Monique (Travis) Dodd, Joshua Vigil and great grandchild, Jude. He is also survived by his two sisters Flora Trujillo and Vangie Tafoya.
