Athleen “Annie” (Gross) McDermott/Campbell, who resided at Heritage Pointe (Warren, IN), has departed to join her Eternal Father on December 3, 2021.
She was born on October 15, 1924, in Parke County, Indiana, to the late Howard and Alice (Brubeck) Gross. In 1942, she graduated from Rockville High School in Parke County. On May 27, 1943, she married James R. McDermott, who preceded her in death. Also preceded her in death was her late husband Charles “Todd” Campbell, her brother Garland Gross, Sister-in-law Mildred Gross, and stepdaughter Jo Ann Tibbets.
Survivors include son Larry J. McDermott, sister Carolyn (Clarence “Pete” King) of Jacksonville, FL, stepson Willie Campbell of Marion, IN, granddaughter Marlene (Joe) Embry of Van Buren, IN, and grandson Lance (Rachel) McDermott of Houston, TX. She has nine great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, two nieces, and three nephews.
In 1944 she located to the Fairmount, IN area before relocating to the naval base in Bermuda. After returning from Bermuda, she lived in Mecca, Dana, and Plainfield, IN, before returning to Fairmount in 1950. In the late 1970’s she moved to Marion, and in 2013 she moved to Heritage Pointe.
She was employed by Delco-Remy (Anderson, IN), Christy Drug Store, and Quaker Inn Restaurant (Fairmount) before joining R.C.A. (Marion), where she retired after 20 years of service.
She was a member of the former Fairmount Christian Church, a 25-year member of the former Fairmount Easter Star, a lifetime member of VFW Ladies Auxilary (#7403-Marion). She attended Jones Chapel Christian Church on occasion.
Annie loved her family, church, camping, fishing, gardening, Chicago Cubs, I.U. Basketball and country movies.
