Ateo Arthur Pecci lived a lifetime filled with art, music, good food and especially the cherished relationship of a 58-year marriage. Art, as everyone knew him, was born in East Boston in 1921 and for many years lived in the home he and his wife Mildred (Carmella Alabiso) shared in Waltham. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family which included his beloved parents Concetta and Paul Pecci, and brothers Frank and Henry Pecci and sisters Edith D’Amico, Alba Carrozza and Mary Venditelli. He leaves many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great gand nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his military service, having served as a medic in the 7th Station Hospital in both Italy and North Africa. He attended East Boston High School and also attended the Massachusetts School of Art, the Vesper School of Art and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He devoted his education to the pursuit of art and worked as a commercial and industrial illustrator. He was greatly influenced by his mentor and uncle Peter Pecci who guided him until he landed a position on the art team at Sylvania GTE where Art spent his career until retiring in 1979. According to Mildred, Art loved music almost more than his work as an artist. He enjoyed playing saxophone and later piano which he took up with Mildred in their retirement. She jokes that they never really played together but more as competitors to see who was best. It was that same sense of friendly competition they had when it came to Italian cooking, often vying for the best tomato sauce or “gravy,” as they called it.
