Arvid Eugene Swanson was born December 14, 1932 in Lake Forest, Illinios to Delphia Blanche Konger and Arvid Siverene Swanson. He passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice located in Chariton, Iowa at the age 83 years.
In Arvid’s growing up years, he lived with his family in Illinios. He later went back to school and obtained his GED. Arvid made a career as a soldier for the United States Army. He served his country in the Korean War. Serving his country was a highlight in Arvid’s life and he was extremely proud to have done his duty for the freedom of this country.
Arvid’s lasting legacy would be his children, Doug, Judy, Terry, David, Michael, Shaun, Kassy, and Kristen. He was also known for taking in non-related children as well as his own and was known by all as “Dad”. Arvid’s is described by his family as a kind, loving, man that would take their shirt off his own back if someone else was in need of one.
His favorite pastimes included gambling at the Casinos, playing cards, the Iowa Lottery games, fishing, stamp collecting, and drawing building sketches. Arvid also enjoyed reading, journaling, cutting firewood, gardening and times spent with family and friends.
Arvid was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Samual Swanson; his son, Arvid Eugene Swanson; and his sister Lynn.
He is survived by his children, Doug, Judy, and Terry Swanson all of New Jersey, David and Michael Swanson of Illinios, Shaun (Colleen) Swanson of Melrose, IA, Kassy Swanson of Centerville, IA, Kristen Yeager Swanson (Michael Stover) of Chariton, IA; grandchildren, Whisper, Paul, Lea, Nathan, Ayla, Kaytlynn, Jacob, Chandler, Chase and William; many extended family and friends.
