Arturo Rodriguez Serna, 92, joined the lord peacefully on September 6, 2017 at the Retama Nursing Home in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on June 23, 1925 in Spanish Acres in Harlingen, Texas to Pedro Serna and Juanita (Rodriguez) Serna.
Arturo was a truck driver for more than 30 years for the Valley Material Company in Harlingen, Texas. After many years of truck driving, he retired and opened Art’s Shop N Go in his hometown of Primera, Texas. He operated and maintained his convenience store for 10 years and soon became fully retired. He was an avid handyman and took much pride in his home in Primera. He loved to sit outside, play his guitar, and sing about his upbringing.
Arturo is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ester Rocha Serna, his daughter Adelina (Nina) Serna Villafranca, his sons, Arturo (Talin) Serna, Jr. (Juanita Garcia Serna), Antonio (Tony) Rocha Serna (Juanita Serna), and Pablo (Paul) Rocha Serna. Arturo had 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. His surviving siblings are Heraclio Serna of Harlingen, Texas and Frank Serna of Corpus Christi, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Pedro Serna, his mother Juanita (Rodriguez) Serna, and his daughter Alejandra (ChaCha) Serna Estrada. The family would like to give a very special thanks to the nurses and CNA’s of the west side of the Retama Nursing Home for all their help and support.
