Artie May Jones Storey was received by her Savior Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 18, 2021. She was born October 1, 1937 in Hockerville, Ottawa County, Oklahoma to Loyed Carmel Jones and Imogene Madge Grube Jones, she was the oldest daughter of nine children. She graduated from Wichita West High School and then attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon completion of training, she went to work with Delta Airlines in Atlanta Georgia as a teletype operator. Artie May married Charles Thomas (Tom) Storey and they had two children, then moved to Newnan, Georgia in 1964. She worked at Cato’s, American Optical and the Coweta County General Hospital before going to work for the Coweta County Volunteer Fire Department as a dispatcher. She worked there for 12 years, then went to work with the Georgia Department of Revenue where she retired from public work. Artie rededicated her life to Christ at Andrew’s Chapel UMC. God called her to transfer to Newnan First UMC, then Cornerstone UMC. She was attending Southwest Christian at the time of her call to go home. Each move was based on God’s leading to help her grow closer to Him. God called her to be a leader in the United Methodist Women; to facilitate in Bible Studies; to be a Lay Delegate to the North Georgia UMC Conference. She attended a North Georgia Emmaus weekend which led her to a deeper love of Jesus Christ and her Heavenly Father. She became very active in the Atlanta South Emmaus and Chrysalis Communities. God then called her to become involved in the Kairos Outside of Georgia ministry – a ministry for women who had loved ones who were incarcerated. This ministry was her joy for more than 20 years. She was an active member of Community Christian Church Thursday morning bible study. Artie was the current president of the Coweta Genealogical Society. She began as a charter member in 1981. She enjoyed digging into her family roots. She had recently made some mini trips to grave sites of her ancestors. It thrilled her to find out that she had at least five Methodist ministers in her history and she was looking forward to finding more ministers who brought the Gospel to those in need. Artie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Walter Loyed Jones and Ernest Loyal Jones; sister: Mary Elena Jones Horn and brother-in-law: Edward Horn. She is survived by son: Jeffery (Jeff) Scott Storey – Alabama; daughter: Elizabeth Faith (Faye) Storey and close niece: Shelia Storey; sister: Sue Jones Bishop – Oklahoma; brothers: David (Charmayne) Jones – Utah, Wayne Jones – Kansas, Ray (Susan) Jones – Wisconsin and Gary (Deb) Jones – Kansas; and the father of her two children: Tom (Harriet) Storey – Alabama. Also surviving her are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and people who called her “Momma,” “Grandma” and “Aunt.”
