Mr. Arthur Morrell Yates, age 90, born 19 Nov 1923, of Hondo, Texas died Tuesday, 27 May 2014 at Christus Sister Mary Hospice Center in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Yates was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action: a true American Hero to his family and country.

Born in East Tallassee, Alabama, Mr. Yates was raised in Lanett, Alabama. He

was the husband of the late Eva Marie Tremel Yates, and the son of the late Jesse

Leonard Yates, and Maude Estelle Fortune Yates. Arthur and Eva had a double wedding ceremony with Arthur’s brother, Howard James Yates and his beloved bride, Ruby Lee Butler.

Mr. Yates was also preceded in death by his brothers: J. D., William E., and Howard J. Yates; and his sisters: Jessie Mae Hughey, Ellen Lucille Griggs, Velma I. Shirey, and Frances L. Wright. He had two grandsons that preceded him in death: Neil Allen Sturak, and Justin Elliott Yates.

Mr. Yates is survived by three children: Amy F. M. Yates of San Antonio, Texas; Barry A. Yates

(Holly) of Hondo, Texas, and Morrell H. Yates of Lancaster, California. He is also survived by

his sister-in-law, Rudine Thompson Yates in Fredonia, Alabama. Grandchildren are Mystique M.

Marshall, Joseph Brett Yates (Susan), Matthew C. Yates, Christopher M. Yates (Christie), and

Jeana R. Yates Martin (Matthew), Maegan Weber Souquette (Ernest), & Bobby Weber. Great grandchildren are: Paloma Marshall; Brandon Yates, Benjamin Yates, Evan Yates; Maggie, Molly and Jack Yates; Fiona, Marley & Matthew Martin; Mia and Camilla Weber; Summer and Schaefer Weber. Many nieces and nephews including Debbie Allen who helped take care of her uncle, Mr. Yates, many times. Mr. Yates loved all his children and the good Lord above, and said he was looking forward to going to heaven to meet his maker.

Mr. Yates became a deacon at Navco Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama in 1964. He taught Sunday School in churches in Alabama and churches in Texas, and led singing. He loved to travel and could say that he had driven in all 50 of the United States. His hobbies included reading The Bible, gardening, and fishing.
