Arthur S. Thompson, 80, of Point Pleasant, NJ, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. Art was born on July 13, 1934, and was raised in North Plainfield, NJ. He is a 1952 graduate of North Plainfield High School where he was named MVP for their football team. He was also named Team Captain and All-County in Track.
He had a lifelong love of the beach and was a proud member of the life guard team in Seaside, NJ, during the 1950s. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force as an aircraft radio repairman. While on military leave, he traveled the country by car with his Air Force buddies. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1963. He was a four-year member of the football team and Captain and All-American his senior year. He became a Physical Education Teacher and Football Coach for South Plainfield High School. He went on to work as a Clerk with the US Post Office in Point Pleasant, NJ, until his retirement.
Art enjoyed many happy times during the summer with his family in Point Pleasant. He loved swimming in the family pool and spending time with friends and family on the deck. Predeceased by his first wife Karen Teaters, his second wife Maureen Kane, and also his dear son Timothy. Surviving are his children Cindy Egloff of Indiana, Elizabeth Reynolds of New Jersey, Michael of New Mexico, Patricia Garber of Illinois, and Todd of Washington, DC, his six grandchildren Matthew, Lillian, Sean, Erica, Kelsey, and Shane, and his great-grandchild Kylie.
