Arthur Melvin Ousley Jr., 53, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, July 1, 2021. Arthur was born September 16, 1967, in Des Moines, IA, to Arthur and Deborah (Whiteside) Ousley. He married Angela Ousley in June of 2000.
Art worked for Principal Financial Group. He also is a well-known and respected athletic official. Recently, he had the honor of becoming a Big Ten Official. In addition, Art officiated high school football and basketball as well as many championship games. You knew it was a big game if Art was there.
He owned and operated Men in Stripes where he mentored and employed many people and gave them a pathway to becoming basketball officials. He was also an owner/operator of AQ Cleaning Solutions. Art was a proud board member of Habitat for Humanity. The joke between him and his wife was that he was the hardest working man in showbiz.
He loved, first and foremost, time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Art was a fiercely protective father, husband, and provider. He loved sitting outside, smoking cigars, chatting with neighbors, and watching any and every sport.
Left to cherish Arthur are his wife and best friend of 30 years, Angela Ousley; sons, Christopher Lessmann, Jordan Owen, Christian Ousley; daughters, Alysha Ousley, Alivia Ousley; 14 grandchildren; step-mother, Yvonne Ousley; sisters, LaChelle (Jarrod) Brown, Arte Ousley, Julanda (Robert) Taylor, Charisse (Derrick) Whitlock; brothers, Armont (Tina) Ousley, Julian (Jessi) Brown, Derek Burton, Chad Moore; as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmothers, Shirley Whiteside and Carmel Ousley.
