Arthur A. Klumpp passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3rd 2016 at the age of 97. He was born on April 28, 1919 in Scio Township, Michigan to Matthew and Matilda (Steeb) Klumpp. Art graduated from Dexter High School in 1936 and shortly thereafter began working for Michigan Bell Telephone now known as AT&T. Less than 10 months on the job,he was drafted into the US Army serving four years including overseas in parts of Germany during World War II.In 1944 he married Muriel G. McEachren at St Andrews United Church of Christ. He is survived by three sons, James, David (Barbara) and Ronald, three grandsons, Jeremy (Eliza), Jared and Matt. There are also two great grandsons Atticus and Delano along with numerous nieces and nephews. A special friend and companion, Barbara Beyster of Grosse Pointe Farms also survives. Predeceased by Muriel in 2001 after 57 years of marriage along with daughter in law Martha, brother Laurence and sister Lucille.Art was a member of St Andrews United Church of Christ where he served on the consistory including a time as President. He served on the Dexter Village Council as Clerk and Trustee, and was a volunteer fireman on the Dexter Fire Department. Art was a charter/life member of Dexter American Legion Post 557 actively taking on positions at the Post, District and State level. He along with his sons hung the Christmas tree lights at the Legion for many years.In 1977 he and Muriel moved to Bayside Estates, Ft Myers Beach Florida after a 38 year career with Michigan Bell of which the last 25 were in Dexter as the local telephone man. He continued his civic duty by becoming active in VFW Post 10097 serving as Quartermaster for several years, a member of Chapel By The Sea Presbyterian Church, serving on the Ft Myers Beach Fire Board and Bayside Estates Men’s Club.Cremation has taken place.
