Arthur J. Papa, 88, of Orange, passed away at his home on Dec. 3, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Vigliotti Papa. Mr. Papa was born in New Haven Oct. 17, 1927, son of the late John H. and Lucy Merola Papa. He graduated from local schools and served in the U.S. Army in the latter stages of World War II. He was the owner and manager of Chapel Open Air Market (Papa & Sons) at the corner of Chapel and Orchard St. in New Haven for 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past president of the New Haven Young Republicans, and a member of the Holy Infant Men’s Club. He enjoyed his retirement with his wife, traveling the world together and spent his winters at Little Club in Tequesta, Fla. for more than 20 years. There he enjoyed playing golf and bocci and socializing with his friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, John (Gigi), David (Ellen) and Paul (Christi) Papa; his grandchildren, Olivia, Nicholas, Valerie & Jillian Papa, Michelle & Karen Milner; one sister, Paula Caruso; sister in law, Nancy Vigliotti and brother in law, John Vigliotti. He was predeceased by his son, Mark J. Papa; two brothers, Stephen J. and John Papa and two sisters, Mary Avitable and Rose Thomas.
