Arthur J. Jacques of Glen Burnie died March 3, 2009 at Fairfield Nursing and Rehab Center. Mr. Jacques was born 28 April 1906 in Quebec, Canada to the late Joseph and Delina Jacques. He moved to this country in 1923 and became a resident of Maryland in 1955. He was a Wood Cutter and Clearing Contractor until he retired in the 1980’s, but continued to be active whether selling firewood or raking leaves. He always had to be doing something with his hands. Not having a lot of formal education, he managed to be a self taught man and after moving to this country he spoke very little english and didn’t write it at all. However bound and determined he was going to stay in this country he learned to speak the language and taught himself to write as well. Whatever it took to make a living, he did it. He had some great stories to tell and never seemed to meet anybody he didn’t like. Loved the women (of course, typical Frenchman). A hug and a smile was always ready.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter Joyce Jacques, grandson Rodney Lilly, great-granddaughters, Madison and Michaela Lilly along with his extended family and many friends.
