Arthur ” Art” Hodson, 94, passed away at Westminster Village, Muncie at 10:41 p.m. Saturday. He was born in Upland, the son of the late Pearl and Laura (Gillespie) Hodson.

He spent most of his life in Monroe Township on the family farm. He was a 1930 graduate of Jefferson High School. He attended Taylor University from 1930 to 1932 and went on to graduate from Purdue as a chemical engineer in 1936. He married Mary (Speicher) on August 12, 1934. She preceded him in death on January 24, 1996. He later married Nelle Alspaugh on September 21, 1996. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2005. Mr. Hodson’s banking career started when he joined his father at the Upland Bank in 1950. He was well known in the community and was a founding partner of STAR Financial Bank. He was on the board and served as Chairman of the Board of STAR Financial Bank for many years. Among his philanthropic endeavors are the Hodson Dining Commons on the Upland Campus of Taylor University and the Hodson Residence Hall on the Marion campus of Indiana Wesleyan, and Hodson Campus Center at White’s Family Services, where he served on the board following his father.

Survivors include a sister, Caroline M. Hanley, Alma, AR.; a nephew, Dr. Larry Hanley, Alma, AR; two nieces; Marjorie Hanley, Mounds View, Minnesota, Wilma Bohn, Rochester, Wash.; and a stepson, Michael (Carole) Alspaugh, Walkerton and two step-grandsons, Shawn, and Matthew Alspaugh.
