Arthur Gary Cragun passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the Ogden Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family. He was born March 1, 1944, in Orem, Utah, to Edmund Mower Cragun and Genevieve Melba Skinner. He was raised with his seven brothers and sisters in Orem, Utah. He graduated from Orem High School in 1962 and attended many college and vocational courses throughout his life.
Art was a hard worker. He fondly remembered his first job picking strawberries as a 2nd grader. Around 12, he worked 15 acres of strawberries and raspberries on leased land. He treasured his memories of peddling fruit as a teen and his time at the White Sands Missile Range in Green River, Utah. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after working there for 40 years. Art proudly served God and Country by joining the Army in 1962, the Navy Reserves in 1975, and the Air Force Reserves in 1982.
He first married Vicky May Cook. From this marriage came his beloved daughter Corie Lyn Eunice Cragun. Vicky and Art later divorced. Art then married and was sealed to his eternal companion Dixie Slater Kurns, in the Ogden Temple. She brought two children into the marriage, Dustin and Stephanie Kurns. Art loved and raised them as his own, and they will always hold him in their heart as their dad.
He loved to fish, ride motorcycles, star watch, travel, attend the theater, and tag along on teacher field trips with Dixie.
Art’s greatest passion was doing family history work for his Robidoux mountain men ancestors and attending the temple. He actively held many callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved God and faithfully served as a missionary with his wife Dixie in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Bishop’s Storehouse in Layton, Utah. He extended his mission many times.
His family loved his loud laugh that shook the room. He was a generous and giving man, much loved by his children, siblings, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie, three children, Corie (Brittany) Cragun, Dustin (Rebekah) Kurns, Stephanie (Nate) Daich, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Darwin Edmund Cragun, Henry Dorlynn Cragun, Nyla Sundquist, Grant Cragun, Betty Jo Wold, Carolyn LeBreton, and Ellen Kendell. He is survived by his dear sister, Veline Bradley, and his special brother-in-law, Phil Bradley.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many health care workers, family, and friends who have helped and assisted Art through his later years.
