Arthur E. Pine, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Helen Ann (Lagos).  Arthur and Helen were married in August, 1947, and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together prior to her passing in June of 2009.

Art is survived by his son, Timothy A. Pine of Salt Lake City, Utah, his daughter Pamela E. (Jack E. Richey, Jr.), two loving and cherished granddaughters, Erica E. Richey, and Melissa A. Richey, and his greatest joy, his great-grandson, Zachary A. Pendergrass, whom he affectionately called “his buddy.”

Art was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School and attended Carroll College in Montana before proudly serving in the Marine Corp. during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.

Art retired in 1968 after 20 years of service with the South Bend Police Department, of which he spent nearly 15 years in the Detective Bureau.  He then worked for another 20 years as a St. Joseph County Probation Officer.  Later in life he worked as a starter at the Notre Dame golf course for many years.

Throughout most of his life, Art participated in some type of sports activity.  He enjoyed playing handball, golfing, and bicycling.  He was a member of FOP#36, YMCA, RIPEA, and Christ the King Catholic Church.

In 2015 Art and his daughter took a “trip of a lifetime” to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., with the Honor Flight.  Each and every veteran had a very special and emotional day, and Art was honored to be a part of the journey.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, private services have been planned for Art.
