Arthur D. Jenkins, 88

Arthur D. Jenkins, age 88, of Alamogordo, formerly of Clayton, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010 in Alamogordo’s Gerald Champion Hospital.

Arthur Jenkins was born on April 23, 1921, in Sedan, New Mexico, to Arthur Jenkins, Sr. and Florence Ellen Bullman Jenkins. He married Ethel Louise Pannell on July 11, 1943, in Fargo, Texas.

Arthur was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a devout Christian, and a hard-working rancher and farmer. After his parents’ early deaths, Arthur spent his early years in Illinois and Fargo, Texas. A graduate of Northside High School, in Fargo, Texas, he later joined the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII as part of the 490th Bomber Squadron. After the war, he and his wife moved to Sedan where he farmed and ranched from 1947 to 1983. When he retired, he and his wife Louise moved to Clayton where Arthur worked for the ASC office until he retired again. Arthur was a member of the Gideon’s and served as deacon at the Sedan Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Clayton for many years. In 2005, he and his wife moved to assisted living in Alamogordo.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a brother Durwood Jenkins and a sister Wylene Ellen Griffin. Survivors include a son David Jenkins and wife Sharry of Muleshoe, Texas, and two daughters, Sue Ellen Bunch of Aliso Viejo, California, and Sherrye Ann Guidry and husband Richard of Alamogordo, New Mexico. He is also survived by grandchildren Shawna Stevenson and her husband Jim of Millersville, Maryland; John Paul Bunch and his wife Ashley of Phoenix, Arizona; Adam Bunch of Aliso Viejo, California; Alison Vellon and her husband Jason of Annapolis, Maryland; and Ryan Guidry and his wife Roseanne of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Great grandchildren surviving are Jake and Samantha Stevenson of Millersville, Maryland, and Ryan, Jr. and Dallas Guidry of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
