Arthur “Bud” W. Bennett
October 2, 1926 – January 14, 2022
Bud, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and best friend went to go fish the abundant lakes and streams of heaven on January 14, 2022. Bud was born to Roy and Sadie Bennett in Casper, Wyoming on October 2, 1926. He was the youngest of seven siblings and was known to them as their “little buddy”. This nickname would change to “Buddy” throughout his school years and later to “Bud”, which he went by for the rest of his life. This name couldn’t be more fitting for the kind of man he turned out to be.
When he was 2 years old, Bud and his family moved to Kearney, Nebraska. Sadly, at the young age of 4 his mother died. He and his sister Lucille both weren’t school-aged yet, but his dad needed to work so off to 1st grade they went. The dust bowl brought them further west to Vale, Oregon when he was 10 years old for a short time, before finally settling in Middleton, Idaho in 1936.
Bud and his longtime friend, Caleb Bloomfield, were eager to enlist in the Marines and serve their country, but they weren’t 17 yet. Bud turned 17 on October 2nd, Caleb turned on October 17th and they enlisted on October 20, 1943. He served in the Pacific and participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1946.
Upon returning home he started an apprenticeship to become a carpenter and joined the carpenter’s union. He worked as a commercial carpenter until he was forced to retire following a heart attack in 1980. He was so proud of his accomplishments and loved showing his family the schools and other buildings he worked on in the area.
On the weekends, Bud and his friends would go to the lodge where they held dances on the weekends. When asked how well he danced he would reply, “not very well but good enough to catch my wife!” He met the love of his life, Patricia Edwards, at one of those dances in May of 1949. They were married August 26, 1949 and made their home in Nampa where they lived for the next 72 years. They had two daughters, Barbara Kay and Teresa Ann, and he loved them both to the moon and back again.
In 1965, they purchased land in God’s Acres outside of Cascade where they eventually built a cabin in 1987. Their daughters and their four grandkids have so many wonderful memories of time spent in God’s Acres. Picking huckleberries, fishing, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, rock picking, and even learning how to wash their face in the wilderness.
He was a New York Yankees fan for life, but probably an even bigger fan of attending his grandkids sporting events. Bud was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had such a quick wit and great sense of humor. The twinkle in his eye was hard to miss and his fun-loving personality was contagious. He was extremely detail oriented and a hardworking man who tended to his own home and beautiful garden into his 90’s.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia Bennett, his two daughters Barbara Jones (Chuck) and Teresa Brown (Roby) and his four grandchildren Riley Holtz (Rob), Taylor Jones (Jessica), Hallie Huber (Casey), and Michael Brown (Alexandra). He was also lucky enough to have known and spent time with his 6 great-grandchildren, Memphis and Abel Jones, Bentlee and Hayden Holtz, and Greta and Frankie Huber.
We love you forever❤
