James Arthur Richards, son of Elmer and Fannie Richards was born June 30, 1924 in rural Lucas County Iowa.
He passed away December 7, 2011 at the Hospice Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa.
James, better known as Art to family and friends, was the youngest of twelve children.
Growing up in the rural Belinda area, he helped his father and brothers on the family farm.
In the spring of 1943, Art was called to active duty in the United States Army.
He was very proud to serve his country in the Pacific War Theater.
To this union five children were born:
Sherry Sue, John LeRoy, Shirley Diane, Joy Lynn, and Jeffrey Jay.
Art became a long haul trucker, traveling over four million miles driving on every Interstate and US highway in the continental US (some still dirt roads at the time).
Retiring in 1987, Art loved to travel and spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Art was proceeded in death by his parents, Elmer Sylvester and Fannie Angeline (Lenig) Richards, his brothers; Elmer Clinton Richards, Cecil Sylvester Richards, John Marshall Richards, and his sisters;
He leaves to mourn his passing, wife Wilma, children Sherry (Larry) Marker, John (Patty) Richards, Shirley (Dwight) Winborn, Joy (Dwaine) Sellers, Jeff Richards, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by all.
