Aron “Ray” Jamison, family Patriarch, went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2020. He was born February 21, 1937 in Cliftonville, MS to the late Watson and Sophia (Macon) Jamison. Ray accepted Christ at a young age. He was a faithful member of First United Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years.
Ray assisted in bringing the church to their current location on Burdick Street. A very active member, he also served as an usher, trustee for many years, as well as the Superintendent of the Sunday School and mission deacon. His expertise as a carpenter was used throughout his time there, as he took great care of their building and consulted with the church on improvement projects.
Ray worked as a carpenter for many companies in the area, retiring from Building Resoration in 1999. He was a mentor to a lot of young men, especially the family he loved and led steadfast with grace. He was known to dirty his fair share of pots and pans, known well for his greens and okra. Along with his wife, he was member of the TNBA Bowling League for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fannie Lee Jamison, on October 25, 2013; his parents; five brothers, Willie Erie, S.L., William, James, and Wayne Jamison; three sisters, Ora Lee Johnson, Bertha Williams, and Dola Stewart; and grandson, Raymond Jamison.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Debbie of Kalamazoo, MI, Aaron, Jr. (Salina) of Riverside, CA, and Denise (Johnny) Willhite of Kalamazoo; grandsons, Jerome (Carrie) of Kalamazoo and Anthony of Hiroshima, Japan; granddaughter, Marie (Steven) Edwards of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Willie White; special friend, Doris Hemphill; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
