Arnold John R. Gilbert of Remington, Indiana passed away at his home on Sunday, August 26, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Arnold was born in Castlewood, Virginia on March 28, 1951, the son of Emory Ralph and Goldie Myree (Austin) Gilbert. He moved with his family to Rensselaer where he attended the Rensselaer Central Schools and obtained his GED. He later moved to Remington where he resided for many years. He had served with the Indiana National Guard. A self-employed construction contractor, he was the owner and operator of Gilbert Excavating.

Arnold loved woodworking and made many beautiful articles for his family and friends. He enjoyed drag racing and spending days at the drag race track.

Arnold was fondly known as “little Arnie” and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Surviving are his loving children, daughter Kimberly A. Wright of Lafayette, IN and Scott M. Gilbert (Mary Jo) of Rensselaer, IN; grandchildren Treasure Gilbert, Jaylen Gilbert, Noah Bierma, and Hayden Wright, great-granddaughter Emberlynn Jeanne Gilbert and two sisters, Dorothy Lefler (Jim) of Castlewood, VA and Louella Fellmy.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Goldie Gilbert and his former wife and mother of his children, Jeanne Mitchell Gilbert.
