WALLINGFORD – Arnold “Red” Barton, 87, of Wallingford, departed this life on January 13, 2018 at Masonicare Health Center after a short illness. Red was born in Boston, MA on December 30, 1930 to the late Arnold and Angelina (Fraser) Barton Sr. In his early years, he attended Mount Herman Prep School in Gill, MA and later attended and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA. Thereafter, Red sailed as 3rd and 2nd Mate on coastal oil tankers for Sun Oil for ten years. He also held a commission as LtJG in the United States Navy serving as Gunnery Officer aboard the USS Allagash.  Upon coming home from the seas Red spent 30 years working in Human Resources for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft.  Red also served the town of Wallingford as a volunteer firefighter with Yalesville Company 5 for 30 years.
Red is survived by his ex-wife Adele Barton, his loving children; Kenneth Barton (Michael Cowles), Glen Barton (Loy Hayes), David Barton (Diana Barton), Linda Barton, his sister: Carol Neubauer, and six grandchildren. Red was also host father to five exchange students over the years including his doctor and Wallingford resident Anu Walaliyada (Paula Clogher). He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Cook. The family is extremely grateful for the loving care Red received during his time on Ramage 2 at Masonicare.
