Mr. Armin J. Kurbus, age 87, beloved spouse of 57 years to Johanna Meislitzer Kurbus of Milford, formerly of Fairfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Golden Hill HCC, Milford. Son of the late Ivan and Francisca Kovacic Kurbus, he was born on February 17, 1922 in Maribor, Slovenia. Before moving to Milford he was a Fairfield resident for 45 years. For five years during WW II, Armin was a forced laborer in a German factory, then as a prisoner in an Italian concentration camp, and finally, as a ward of the Russian military in Fehring, Austria. After the war, he held a ten-year teaching position in an elementary school in Austria. An Electrician for Heim Incom of Fairfield, he was known for his expertise and retired in 1990. Armin was also the Musical Director of the singing group “Zvon”; performing all over the USA, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Canada, and Europe, since 1967. He and his group cut two long playing records. Armin enjoyed life to the fullest. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Silvana Lora and her husband Bernhard of Austria and Melita Allsop and her husband Jeffrey of Milford, two grandchildren, Brittany and Michael Allsop, and a nephew, Lado Kotarac of Slovenia. He was predeceased by a sister, Iza Kotarac.
