Armando Alberico, 88, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018, at his home in Idaho Falls, surrounded by his loving family, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Armando was born July 1, 1930, in San Vittorino, a beautiful mountain village in central Italy, to Elena (Disibio) and Americo Alberico. His father emigrated to the U.S. in 1930 to work and eventually send for his family. The Great Depression delayed his plans and his family of four, which included Armando’s older brother, Raphael, and older sister, Angelina, could not make the journey to the US until 1940. They settled in Magna, Utah, and the births of three more children, Vera, Vallene and Diane, followed in the 1940’s. Armando attended schools there and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1950.
Armando joined the Air Force in 1951, and served in Korea. He met Marian Saban in 1953 in Tooele, Utah, and they were married on July 17, 1954, in Magna. They were blessed with three children, Jim, Kristina and Stephanie. Armando worked for Kennecott Copper in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. He enrolled in college classes and eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1962, he moved his family to Idaho Falls for a position at the National Reactor Testing Station, now known as the Idaho National Laboratory. He started as a technician and worked his way into an engineering position, retiring in 1992. He was well liked by all and known for rarely taking a sick day through his 30-year career.
In 1998, Armando and his son, Jim, toured the high points of Italy.
