Arlo was, one of 11 children, born to Virgil and Ines Smith in Vici, Oklahoma on August 18, 1924. He married Dorothy E. Eason in Berryville, Arkansas May 6, 1950 and lived various places in the U.S. before settling in Walsh, CO for several years. Later they moved to southwest Kansas where Arlo managed HALACO feed-yard in Satanta, where they raised their 2 children. In 1972 they moved to Tribune, Kansas where he was a part-owner and manager of Oxtown Cattle Feeders, Inc. Arlo and Dorothy spent many years together working as a team. He was a highly respected and admired cattleman, and he fed cattle for people all over the U.S. Their son, Arlo Ray also worked tirelessly along side them, doing anything dad needed done, from being his number 1 feeder to operating all the heavy equipment.
