Arlene Selma Nilson Hancock Hansen peacefully progressed back to the care of her Heavenly Parents, and her departed earthly parents, during her sleep on the morning of 16 December 2020.

Her departure was calm and without struggle, primarily because of a reassuring visit from her departed earthly parents just a few days before.  They assured her of their love for her and the completion of their preparations to receive her back into her Heavenly home.

Arlene had been tenderly cared for at Mount Ogden Rehabilitation Center for nearly a year, by her special nurse’s Natalie, Darin, Tory and the other nursing staff.

Arlene was born on the 25th 0f June 1942 in Logan, Cache County, Utah.  Her first four years were enjoyed in a peaceful rural setting.  The family then moved to Washington Terrace, Utah, where she attended Washington Terrace Elementary, South Ogden Junior High, and graduated from Weber High School.  She later married Carl Hancock and they had three beautiful children: Robert Carl, Georgia, and Maria.  A handsome fourth child, Johnny, came through her subsequent marriage to Charles Hansen.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Truman Wesley and Selma Swenson Nilson, her husband Carl Hancock, a grandson Bobby and a granddaughter Angelea.  Surviving siblings are D. Wesley Nilson (Peggy), Wendell T. Nilson (Barbara), and Beverly Nadene Nilson.  Surviving children are Robert Carl, Georgia, Maria and Johnny; grandchildren are, Mei-yan, Crystal, Becky, Cody and Jordan; great grandchildren Terek, Tristan, Tabitha, Adelyn, Aubrielle and Owen.

In the Nilson home Arlene was always clement and peace promoting, unselfish and considerate. To her friends, always kind and compassionate.  The well-being of her posterity was always foremost in her mind and heart, and she yearned to have greater means with which to bless them.

Everyone who met Arlene, within just a few minutes, was impressed with her meek and unpretentious nature.  She was gentle and kind-hearted toward all living creatures.  She has always been a tender, sensitive and compassionate spirit in all her dealings.  Her compassion for dogs and especially wandering cats was “legendary”.  She was also passionate about the Earth and the thoughtful preservation of our planet.

Arlene was always a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, strong in her faith in Jesus Christ and valiant in her testimony of the Plan of Salvation.  One of her favorite hymns is “Onward Christian Soldiers”.  She is surely now marching at the head of a heavenly battalion, posing a more prominent profile, leaving behind her mortal shyness.

Arlene also savored the privilege of attending the temple, and loved to participate in ordinances for the living as well as the departed. One of the most glorious moments of Arlene’s life was her sealing to her earthly parents in the Ogden Temple.
