Arlene Dorothy Allen Lusk passed away at Rosetta Assisted Living on Sunday, April 19, 2015, with family at her side.
She was born on October 17, 1921 to Lewis George Allen and Clara Belle Glover in Robin, Idaho. She was the third of six children. She was raised and attended school in Hawkins Basin, and graduated from high school in Arimo, Idaho.
Arlene married James “Jim” Lusk on December 24, 1940. Their marriage was blessed by six children – James “Jimmy” Lewis, Marsha Ann, Larry Allen, Edward Jay, Roger Dean and Brent Lee. Jimmy died at six-years-old in a horseback riding accident.
Jim worked for various farmers in Malad, Arbon and Pocatello. In February 1952, they purchased their farm in Fort Hall, Idaho. They raised hay, grain and potatoes. They also had a dairy which had the best producing herd in Southeastern Idaho. Arlene worked hard on the farm, doing anything that was required. Later, as Jim’s health declined, they sold off most of the land and the dairy herd.
After their farming days ended, Arlene went to work at Idaho State University as a custodian. While there, she made many friends and this became a very enjoyable part of her life with socialization and independence.
Arlene enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. She made afghans and quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and other family members.
She raised a huge garden every year and canned the produce. Arlene loved to cook and was one of the best. She taught her daughter and sons to cook, but none of us could cook as well as Mother.
After retiring from ISU, she had the opportunity to travel with family to many places. Her biggest thrill was the trip to Hawaii. She enjoyed the Hawaiian music.
She remained in her home at Fort Hall until 2010 when she fell and fractured her pelvis. This required her to move into assisted living. Arlene was a resident at Quail Ridge Assisted Living, Cottonwood Cove Retirement Center and Rosetta Assisted Living.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her five siblings – Louise, Bernice, Claudine, Clayton and Darrell, her husband, Jim, her son, Jimmy, and her great-grandson, Alex Bouyear. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Wayne) Underwood of Chubbuck, and her sons – Larry Lusk of Blackfoot, Jay (Linda) Lusk of Chubbuck, Roger Lusk of Pocatello and Brent Lusk of Nampa, ten grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Rosetta Assisted Living, Quail Ridge and Encompass Hospice for the compassionate care that was given to their mother.
