Arlene Frances Galloway, 87, of Shiloh, IL, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL. She was born May 15, 1925 to Bert and Florence, nee White, Buseman on a farm northwest of Monroe, South Dakota.
She attended a rural school, Spring Valley #4 for 8 years and graduated from Monroe High School in 1943. She attended Eastern State Normal School in Madison, South Dakota after which she taught rural school for 7 years. On June 10, 1944 she married Cleon Galloway at her parent’s home. When Cleon was discharged from the Army Air Corps, they made their home in Hartford, South Dakota. Both worked in Sioux Falls, S.D. with Arlene working for Montgomery Ward as the manager of the catalog department.
In 1951 they moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she worked for General Dynamics. In 1958 the family moved to Shiloh, IL where Arlene worked in Civil Service at Scott AFB. In 1981, upon retirement, Arlene traveled and enjoyed gardening until her health failed her. At the age of 12, Arlene accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized at Spring Valley Baptist Church.
After moving to the Shiloh O’Fallon area, she joined the 1st Baptist Church of O’Fallon. She was preceded in death by her husband Cleon Galloway, parents, Bert and Florence Buseman, sisters; Lucille Woltzen, Bernice Wieman, Evelyn Edmundson, and 2 brothers; Lloyd and Harold Buseman. Arlene is survived by her children, Craig (Kate) Galloway and Sheryl Juenger, both of Shiloh, IL, a brother, Arvid (Marjorie) Buseman of Sioux Falls, SD, a sister Shirley Whitworth of Ft. Worth, TX, 2 granddaughters; Stefanie (Adam)Grossmann of Millstadt, IL, USAF Captain Colleen Galloway of Washington, DC, 2 great grandchildren, Elliette and Clara Grossmann of Millstadt, IL, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Staff of Mar-Ka Nursing Home in Mascoutah for their compassionate care and the many kindnesses extended to Arlene and her family.
