“Together Again”
Our dear dad (father), grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, 96, passed away from complications of COVID19 at the Ogden Regional medical Center on December 21, 2021. Mother passed away November 14, 2020. Dad missed her greatly. Dad’s Christmas wish was to be with her again.
He was born August 11, 1925 in Logan, Utah, to Rosella Vidella Kendell Stone and George Leroy Stone. He was the 5th of 7 children and grew up on a farm in Weston, Idaho. He met the love of his life Thelma Page in high school. She was the only girl he dated, and he was the only boy for her. They were engaged in 1944, then shortly after dad was drafted into the army for World War II, serving from 1944-1946. On December 10, 1946 they were married in the Logan Temple. They enjoyed life together for 74 years. Dad & mom were very positive happy peaceful people. They could always find the positive in any situation. Everyone knew when dad was happy and content…he would hum a tune.
When we were kids, dad did have moments of mischievousness, it was always towards mother. He would say something to her that he knew would instantly make her mad, then he would take off running. Mother would chase after him, we children would start laughing. Soon dad and mother would be laughing too.
Sometimes dad would be cooking in the kitchen, something would upset him, and he did a little war dance on the kitchen floor. Then he would be fine. Our family’s entertainment was visiting with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mother would cook meals Monday thru Friday, dad always cooked meals on Saturday and Sunday, inviting family and friends to enjoy with us.
Dad worked for the Arsenal, TriCountry Implement and Whitmore Oxygen Company. He worked for Whitmore Oxygen Company for 35 years and retired in 1989. He made many lasting friendships. When dad retired, he told mother he would take over the kitchen cooking, cleaning and washing dishes so she could have more time to do the things she loved, embroidery, crochet and quilting.
Throughout the years dad has enjoyed the many dear friends and neighbors that surround him. He loved fishing, camping, new cars, and loved to cook especially for company. Dad always kept his cars washed, polished and clean. After retiring, he washed and polished cars for his children, grandchildren and friends. Dad was blessed with good health most of his life, he was still mowing the lawn at 95 years young.
Dad and mother loved spending time with their children and grandchildren. Dad cooked special meals all the time. His son Marvin gave him a wood sign “Chef Argel’s Family Restaurant”, it was one of dad’s treasures. Mother taught the girls to embroidery, tie and quilt quilts. Dad taught the boys camping, fishing and new cars. All his children, grandchildren and great grandson love new cars. In later years of retirement, dad still loved cooking, reading novels, watching The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and visiting with family.
He is survived by three children: Lareta Bowden, Rex (Kay), Marvin (Jackie), 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law LaRue Stone, brothers Oren and Dennis (Lois) Stone. He is preceded in death by his wife Thelma Page Stone, daughter Roanna Stone, his parents, his stepmother and stepfather, his sister Anna (Dean) Benson, brother Joe (Connie), and brother Ray Stone, sister Dora (Jack) Anderson, sister-in-law Carla Stone, sister Audrey (Victor) Veibell, and brother Arnold (Carol) Stone.
